Last March 14, 2013. I changed how my email subscription widget looks like. Actually, I just edited the message and the option to show the number of subscribers. During that time, I decided to change the message for the convenience of those who will join my giveaway, and that time I only have 10 email subscribers. That was my reason for changing the message. But at the end of the giveaway, none of my email subscribers came from the giveaway when I checked the entries. After I few weeks, I noticed a sudden increase of my email subscribers. From 10, there are now 387 subscribers from the time I am writing this post (April 4, 2013) Wow. Amazing. So you really can’t gain subscribers from the giveaway, in the end they will just opt out or most of the time skip the step. People will subscribe to your posts if they really want to receive updates from you. I don’t mean to brag, but these subscribers are all organic. They are real subscribers since before you get to receive updates, you must click a confirmation link that will be sent to you when you subscribe. Right now, I am truly grateful to those who subscribed at their own discretion. If you are one of the subscribers and you are reading this, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Lessons Learned:
- A few word changes in a sentence is powerful.
- Gaining organic subscribers is overwhelming.
- Gaining email subscribers thru giveaways is not a good idea.
